The Best Night Routine for your Skin

The Best Night Routine for your Skin
Ever wondered, why skin care experts stress so much over a night time skin routine?? Here’s why! Just like the rest of the body, our skin, REPAIRS, RESTORES and REGENERATES while we sleep. This is exactly why people who sleep well often have fantastic skin! Now that we know when to treat our skin, we should move on to the How’s of treating it! Remember! The treatment that you give should be well planned and thought of according to your skin type!

1. Know your skin before you plan your night time skin care routine.

Examine your skin, because your skin type affects your choice of product.
  • If you have acne, you are most likely to have oily skin. In rare cases; acne is caused due to skin conditions or lack of proper cleansing.
  • If you have dull, flaky skin, then, you are likely to have a dry skin condition.
  • If you do not face any of these problems, it means that you have a normal to combination skin type.

2. Double clean your skin!

During the day, your face attracts environmental pollutants, dirt and chemicals, which form a layer on your skin and at times, penetrate through your skin pores. This is why you must make sure that at the end of the day, your skin is properly cleansed. Some people clean their face by washing it with soap or face wash; others clean it with an oil or cleanser. We recommend doing both, hence the term “Double Clean”. First use a cleanser to clean your face with the help of a cotton bud or tissue. After thoroughly cleaning, we highly recommend that you wash your face with a face wash appropriate for your skin.
  • If you have a very dry skin condition, you can skip the washing part entirely and just clean the face twice with the cleanser.
  • For oily or acne prone skin, you can use a face wash infused in salicylic acid and aloevera after cleansing your face.
  • For normal to combination skin, we suggest using a regular face wash, or one that is infused in activated charcoal.

3. Exfoliate, at least twice a week:

You must exfoliate your skin at least one to three times a week, depending on your skin type.  Exfoliating your skin removes dead skin cells along with cells that are dulling down. You will find many exfoliating scrubs over the counter. We highly recommend sugar or salt based scrubs. After using the scrub, you can wash your face with a face wash. This step can be skipped by people with extremely dry skin conditions. scrub

4. Apply a mask:

After washing or exfoliating your face, we recommend using a mask. A good quality mask helps hydrate the skin, remove excess oils, and improve the appearance of pores. Again, if you have very dry or sensitive skin, you can skip this step or reduce frequency. maska

5. Apply a Toner or Mist

The purpose of the toner or mist is to hydrate and boost the skin. For use at night, we recommend a very lightweight, water based toner that offers comfort as well as hydration. This step is a must for people who have dry skin.

6. Must apply a Serum

The purpose of Serum is to provide your skin with extra hydration and glow. There is a huge variety of serums available in the market.
  • For oily skin types, we recommend a good quality acne serum.
  • For dry/dull skin, we suggest serums infused in vitamin C that brings back the glow to your skin.
  • Another popular serum is the age defying serum that not only hydrates but also rids the skin off fine lines, and wrinkles.
It is advised to use a skin appropriate serum twice a day. Be sure to make it part of your night time skin care routine!

7. End the skin care with a Moisturizer :

The key to a healthy skin is to make sure your skin maintains a high water content. If you have the right kind of moisturizer, it should be your last step before you sleep. We recommend a heavy moisturizer that can aid in the healing process overnight and keep your skin hydrated at the same time. Again, use a moisturizer specific to your skin type.
  • Use a heavy moisturizer if you have dry skin
  • For oily skin, we suggest an acne moisturizer.
